What are the vehicle classes?

  • Street Vehicle – Must be registered / licensed currently. You will be required to show current registration/ license at the time of registration check in.
  • Race Vehicle – Not licensed for street use. Unlimited modifications allowed.
  • Drift Vehicle – Licensed or unlicensed. If your Vehicle is there to drift you enter the Drift Class.

* ALL VEHICLES must pass USAC registration. Safety items will include tires, brakes, steering components, wheels and seat belts/harnesses, fluid leaks etc.

Does my car or truck need a roll cage?

Roll cages are not required but a Snell SA 15 Certified or better helmet is required.

Who can participate in hillclimb?

The Hillclimb is open to all skill levels of automotive enthusiasts. Beginner to expert, street vehicles to race vehicles. All are welcome. For anyone wondering if they have what it takes to participate in a Hillclimb event we offer a free novice orientation program on Thursday prior to the event weekend with instruction and lead follow from professional Hillclimb drivers.

Are passengers allowed in my hillclimb or drift vehicle?

No, passengers are strictly prohibited at West Virginia HillFest.

What type of vehicle can I bring to participate in the time trial hillclimb?

Sporting vehicles of all types are welcome to participate. All vehicles will be subject to USAC tech inspection.

Examples: Sports Cars and Trucks, Race Cars, and Rally Cars.

*Please Note – Side by Sides (SXS), Motorcycles, Go Carts, and ATVs are not allowed.

Where do spectators watch from?

Spectators are permitted only in designated viewing areas.

There will be multiple designated spectator viewing areas available. spectator passes will be $25 for the entire event days.

When and where does West Virginia HillFest take place?

West Virginia HillFest is held annually at Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia. The event will be held on Thursday August 7 Novice Orientation 12-4pm, Friday August 8 8am-10pm, Saturday August 9 8am-10pm, Sunday August 11 8am-4pm.

What happens if I damage the track or event property at West Virginia HillFest?

All participants are responsible for any damage to the course, event property, or surrounding areas caused by their actions, whether on or off the designated track. If damage occurs, the participant will be financially responsible for repair or replacement costs.

Do I need a special racing license?

No. If you are a novice you will be required to participate in the novice orientation.

Is a helmet required to participate in the time trial hillclimb?

Yes, a Snell SA 15 Certified or better helmet is required.

Yes, participants are welcome to bring their own vehicles for the time trial hillclimb, subject to USAC Tech Inspection and safety regulations and event guidelines.

What is your refund policy?

West Virginia HilLFest has a strict no-refund policy for all ticket purchases, so please consider carefully before buying your tickets, as sales are final regardless of circumstances.

I’m a spectator, where do I pick up my tickets?

Spectators must pick up their event wristbands at one of our designated ticketing locations upon arrival. Look for signs and HillFest staff to help guide you.

I’m a spectator, can I bring a camping chair?

We recommend bringing a camping or travel chair to get the best views at Spectator Viewing Areas #2, #3, and #4

SAFETY ADDENDUM

Competition Rules

Vehicle Eligibility: Street Class – Any vehicle/body style certified by the US DOT for street use at its date of manufacture (OEM manufacturer) with CURRENT REGISTRATION AND PLATE.

Race Class/Drift Class – Any vehicle built specifically for competition, tube frame, body in white, carbon tub. Drift Vehicles must be equipped with door intrusion bars to participate

All drivers must be registered to compete.

All drivers and passengers need to have signed waivers on file and a wristband to enter the course.

All vehicles must have gone through a tech inspection and display the Hillfest 2025 tech sticker on the left side of the windshield.

Drivers must have a minimum of SA 2015 helmet rating, and display a tech sticker on the left side of the helmet to enter the course.

All drivers must attend the mandatory drivers meeting each competition day at 7:30 a.m. to compete in that day’s events.

All drivers must strictly adhere to posted speed limits outside of the competition course, or risk being disqualified and removed from the entry list

Passengers will not be allowed in competitors’ vehicles, except for designated instructors and media vehicles.In such case all passengers must wear an SA15 or better helmet.

Race Procedures

Competition hours will be 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Sunday

Vehicles will proceed from the paddock to the loop beginning on Snowshoe Drive at the top of the mountain.

All vehicles intending to compete will proceed in a counterclockwise direction down Snowshoe Dr to Route 66, across the base of the mountain, and enter the closed course from Route 66. Vehicles will proceed slowly on Snowshoe Dr to the staging area before the start line.

Once staged at the start line, the starter will release hillclimb cars at 1-minute intervals onto a clear course as safety allows.

Drift cars will be released in groups of 5-8 vehicles.

All cars will proceed up the course to the finish line, slowing and cooling down in the allotted distance before leaving the course and adhering to all posted speed limits.

On course, a green flag/green light will be used to start each vehicle at 1-minute intervals as safety allows.

A yellow flag will be used to display caution ahead on the course

A red flag will be used to stop competition.

A checkered flag will be used to signify the end of the course.
